Hello! Welcome to my ePortfolio
My name is Heather Norris, and I live in Gainesville, VA. I am currently a 4th grade teacher in Prince William County. My certification includes grades Pre-K - 6, and I will be receiving certification as a reading specialist for K-12 this summer. Over the last seven years, I have worked with a diverse group of students including ELLs, gifted, and special education students.
I always knew that I wanted a career that involved helping or guiding children. When I graduated from George Mason University in 2011, I had earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology. Sociology is about understanding the origins, development, and organization of society as a whole. I concentrated in Childhood Development; this exposed me to the challenging task of teaching our youth how to become successful in such an evolving society. During my undergraduate career, I was able to study abroad in Osaka, Japan. While I was there, I had the incredible opportunity to teach English to young children from the surrounding areas. It was an amazing experience and one that made me realize that teaching was my true calling. After a short break, I decided to return to school to seek my Masters of Education with Initial Licensure so I could become a qualified teacher. My goal as a teacher is to provide my students with the skills they need to become life long learners. As I have continued my education as a teacher, this goal remains at the forefront.
